Dr. Marc Auriol Amalaman is a physical geographer specializing in hydroclimatology and currently serves as a lecturer-researcher at Peleforo Gon Coulibaly University (UPGC) in Côte d’Ivoire. He holds a PhD in Physical Geography from Alassane Ouattara University (Bouaké), with research focused on regional hydroclimatic variability, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, and more specifically in Côte d’Ivoire.
His expertise spans climate and hydrological variability, integrated water resource management, vegetation mapping, and environmental risk analysis. He is proficient in spatial analysis, satellite image processing, time series analysis, and hydrological modeling, using tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, R, Magrit, Hyfran Plus, and KoBoCollect.
Dr. Amalaman has completed several international research stays and fellowships, including at the M2C Laboratory (University of Rouen-Normandy, France), ISTOM (Angers, France), and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, Pakistan. He is a recipient of multiple prestigious awards and fellowships, including the SCAC doctoral and postdoctoral grants, the NIPIS internship program, and the AfroMapR summer school scholarship.
As a consultant and cartographer, he has contributed to projects on forest cover restoration, rice production potential, and drinking water infrastructure in northern Côte d’Ivoire. He collaborates with public institutions, research networks, and development partners.
He is an active member of several scientific associations, including the International Association of Climatology (AIC), the European Geosciences Union (EGU), the pS-Eau Côte d’Ivoire network, and the FRIEND-AOC network (Flow Regimes from International Experimental and Network Data – West and Central Africa).
His scientific publications address climate change impacts on surface water, seasonal fire dynamics, and land use change. He regularly participates in international conferences as a speaker, trainer, and session rapporteur on topics related to climatology, hydrology, and environmental security.
